Gary Blayney Completes Half Iron Man Challenge

Wow, I was extremely honoured and privileged to be able to watch Gary complete his first half iron man in Dungannon yesterday. The guys from Gary's triathlon club said he would be doing well to complete the course in around 6 hours. He smashed it by swimming 1.2 miles, cycling 56 miles and running 13.1 miles in an amazing time of 5 hours 17 minutes and 23 seconds. It was really inspiring stuff and we are so thankful that Gary decided to do this and raise money for Adam's Foundation. It was a really great day and was a great atmosphere with some seriously dedicated and fit athletes encouraging the life out of each other. Thank you so much Gary and seriously well done, looking forward to seeing you go on to a full Iron Man as you made that look easy yesterday. Ross Juniors Football Club's 2nd Adam Stansfield Tournament a Huge Success

Here is a report and some photo's from the guys at Ross Juniors who did another great job in hosting their 2nd Adam Stansfield Tournament.  Huge thanks from all of us, your hard work and efforts are so appreciated. xx

After the success of last year’s event the club ran another tournament in memory of the former Hereford United player, Adam Stansfield. This year the format was to be girls only and there were 2 age groups, Under 9 and Under 11’s. The club also arranged a game on the day from some very good footballers from the Ryefield centre.
There were 15 teams in attendance with teams travelling from as far as Bristol and Cardiff to play on the day. The Under 9’s was keenly contested and saw Ross, after winning a semi final penalty shoot out make it to the final to play local rivals Lads Club Tigers. The final went into extra time and Tigers prevailed with a fine goal to win narrowly 1-0.
The Under 11 section saw some excellent football too. The Mardy Tigers team from Cardiff were unstoppable and cruised to the final, where they were beaten by Lads Club Belles.
The trophies and medals were presented by Adam’s parents Roger and Gig who made the journey up from Devon.

Leominster Minors were the recipients of the £100 sports voucher for demonstrating great fair play throughout. The day was a fantastic success with over 500 visitors and money raised for The Adam Stansfield Foundation and Ross Juniors FC. The club would like to thank all parents who helped out an in particular Ross Lions for their continual support.

I've tried, but I struggle to come to terms with losing Adam

Adam's wife Marie has given a very rare interview to the Express and Echo about coming to terms with the loss of Adam.  The interview was given in what is bowel cancer awareness month and here is a quote from Marie given to the Express and Echo:

"Since Adam died I am often asked, 'how are you doing?'. I put the brave face on and say yes I'm OK but underneath it all I am still trying to come to terms with losing Adam.
"Our boys and our family keep me going and working on Adam's Foundation gives me something positive to look forward to. The love and support we have all received from our friends within football and outside has also helped us get to this point. Much of our work in Adam's charity is about helping young girls and boys get involved and play football but awareness is equally as important. Adam was a young fit professional sportsman so clearly this disease is not just for the old or unfit, up to 90 per cent of bowel cancers can be successfully treated if caught early enough so if you are worried at all please visit your doctor.
"If we can help save one family from experiencing what we have been going through for the last three years then at least some positives can come out of our loss."

I have just read that someone dies from bowel cancer every thirty seconds and it is the UK's second biggest cancer killer. Seems unthinkable doesn't it?  The fact is however that it is a very treatable disease particularly when diagnosed early.  Here is a link to Bowel Cancer UK website's help us raise awareness page.  bowelcanceruk.org.uk  Lets raise awareness and hopefully save some lives!!!

Steve Rowland to cycle for Stanno

Steve Rowland, a great friend and strike partner of Adam's at Elmore FC is taking on a massive challenge in aid of The Foundation.  Steve who is one of our Event Coordinators is going to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats on the 1st of September 2013.  Steve posted the following message on his online giving page:

Hi, thanks for visiting my just giving page. You can sponsor me to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats in aid of the Adam Stansfield Foundation.  I am aiming to raise as much money as possible in support of Adam's foundation which is set up for the benefit of children up to the age of 16 residing in Devon, Herefordshire and Somerset by providing grants and facilities for playing football. My cycle will also help raise more awareness of bowel cancer.  Being a good friend of Adams, playing football together at Elmore FC and being a trustee of the AS9 foundation, i wanted to undertake a significant challenge to raise as much money as possible for a very worthwile cause. This is what i came up with!  Cycling the 930 miles from Lands End to John O Groats, averaging over 100 miles per day for 9 days is going to be tough but i am extremely determined to succeed and with your support i know i can pull it off.  Please support me in my challenge by giving as much as you can to help me reach my goal.  Donations will be quickly processed and passed to the foundation. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.        Steve Rowland.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve for undertaking this massive challenge and would be very grateful if you could get behind him by donating to Steve on his online giving page here:   Cycle For Stanno

Thank you so much for any donations and as always your continued support means so so much.
